The Xtrail cage can be divided, but as there is a hole connecting the two tiers, so it would have to be covered or an additional tray would have to be bought. • Q. I have kept rats for a number a years and in that time I have gone through 3 different cages. In my experience I have found that cages that don't have a plastic coating tend to begin to rust. I have had this problem with both the Jenny and Mary ferplast rat cages. I currently have a ferplast Freddy rat cage (plastic coated) which has lasted much better. I am now after a bigger cage, the Explorer looks just the job. However, I am concerned that it may have the same rusting issues. Can you offer any advice on this?

  The Explorer will not rust as it is oven baked, with a powder coated finish, which is non toxic, protecting your rodents.

  Just wondered if this cage can be divided into 2 sections like the Savic Royal Suite can?

  Also, is it possible to hang things (hammocks etc) in the lower half, ie is there a wire floor under the plastic tray?

  Also, how do you find rats manage with vertical bars rather than horizontal ones?

  One final question! Is it possible to get metal trays as I think my rats might chew plastic ones? I am looking to get this cage as a cheaper but similar alternative to the Savic Royal suite.
